Robot vs Samurai: A Japanese Sword Duel

To celebrate its 100th anniversary, the Japanese industrial Yaskawa Electric Corporation is organizing a duel between the robotic arm Motoman – NH24, one of the fastest robots in its category, and the famous Japanese master Isao Machii, who holds five Guinness World Records for his expertise in martial arts.

The Japanese sword duel covers several challenges including horizontal cuts and a speed battle of 1000 cuts. Who will be the most accurate and fastest?

In order for the robot to achieve this level of performance, the movements were previously recorded by sensors placed on a Japanese master swordsmanship. It is impressive to see how the robot can be quick and accurate.

However, this is not the first time that a manufacturer organizes a “Man vs Machine” duel to promote the precision of its robots. In March 2014 and 2015, the German industrial Kuka Robotics organized a competition with Timo Boll, one of the greatest table tennis players in the world.
